LIGHT WEIGHT

During a residency, someone sleeping in the same building dreamt she floated down from her balcony, then swam back up through the air, too lazy to take the stairs. In the morning, the dream existed only as a story, told over breakfast and remembered by one person.

The film returns the dream to the place where it was dreamt. The balcony, the façade and the air between the floors are real, filmed as they are. Only the body moves in a way the building never allowed. Walls made to separate floors become water to swim through, and a balcony made to stand on becomes a place to float from. Nothing in the building changes, yet it is shown living the life it had in someone's sleep.

A dream can only be seen by the person who has it. Film makes it something others can watch: a private night turned into an image anyone can enter, without needing to know whose dream it was. Retold by a stranger, the dream shifts. It becomes lighter, stranger, a little funny, yet it stays tied to the woman who dreamt it and to the building that held her while she slept.

Part of a series with DEEP DIVER. Where DEEP DIVER falls down the stairs, LIGHT WEIGHT avoids them.
