Emotional Baggage

We navigate the world carrying more than we consciously realize—affects, weights, and influences that shape our choices without our awareness. This artwork gives form to that invisible weight through a handbag, an everyday object reflecting everyday experiences.

Inside, a small screen displays a live feed of visitors entering the exhibition space, making viewers aware that they, too, are being observed. This moment disrupts the illusion of anonymity, exposing the duality of watching and being watched.

The work explores the emotional imprints we unconsciously carry. Like an interface, these internal filters shape how we interpret the world and engage with others. By confronting the viewer with their own presence in the space, the piece invites reflection on how awareness, or the lack of it, shapes experience.

By making the hidden visible, the work raises essential questions: What changes when we recognize the filters through which we see? Can awareness of these unconscious scripts shift our perception, fostering a more intentional and self-directed engagement with the world?
